Silver Screen Dance presents...adult tap dance classes!
Tap dance today has developed in a variety of styles, but no-one can beat the stars of the silverscreen era for graceful and joyful tapping. Inspired by dancers such as Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell and Ann Miller, Silver Screen Dance teaches this fun and elegant style in relaxed and friendly classes for all adults. Tap dancing is great exercise, it tones muscles and develops your balance, but more importantly, it is a lot of fun! Join us to discover for yourself the fun and satisfaction of tap dancing as we combine movement and music, style and rhythm.
My students come from a range of dance backgrounds - from those who took many classes as kids to those who have only recently started dancing as an adult - and are a mixture of men and women, younger and older. I try to make sure that everyone in the class is being challenged to improve their technique and learn new steps, whilst keeping the challenges achievable and the classes relaxed and enjoyable. In each class we do a warm up, a variety of exercises to teach new steps and improve technique, and work on a dance which we build on throughout the term. We dance to a range of music - vintage swing music features heavily but anything from motown to mambo is fair game if it fits well with the steps and inspires a dance!
Classes run throughout the year in a series of short courses; please see below for your next chance to join a class.
Improvers Tap Dance - 6 Week Online Course
Tuesdays 6.00-7.00 pm, starting 10th November 2020 (or catch up online via the recording at a time to suit you)
Online via Zoom
Suggested fee £30*
Suitable for adults with some previous tap experience (e.g. at least a year of tapping, or those with more experience who would like to revise the basics). In these classes we will revise the fundamental steps and technique of tap dance. We'll be practicing basic moves such as shuffles, tap-springs, pick-ups and rolls and working on building these into compound steps and simple but fun sequences to build confidence and get you dancing.
This class is a friendly group made up of people of who have been tapping for between 1-3 years. Please note that it is not suitable for complete beginners, but if you have done a little tap before or have had a long break, this class should be a good level for you.
Please note that you do not need to have proper tap shoes to take this course - any flat or low-heeled shoes that don't grip the floor will be fine (I won't be wearing tap shoes as I am currently teaching classes from my kitchen, but you'll be able to hear my tapping just fine!).
Each class will be recorded and will be available to watch for at least a week after each class, so if you can't make the live class you can catch up at a time to suit you.
To book your place on this course please contact me and I will send details of how to make payment and access the online class.
*If you are currently struggling financially due to the pandemic, you are welcome to take this course for free - please just let me know when you book so I know who to expect payment from or not : ) Otherwise, please pay what you can afford - suggested fee is £30 for the course.
Looking for a different level of class or unable to join us just yet? Courses at a variety of levels will be starting throughout the year, so please join the mailing list to receive details of new classes as soon as they are announced:
